Two cool bits of news for everyone. First off, a reminder that after tomorrow's gathering we'll be having a Chili Feed. Everyone is invited... the various chilis are being prepared by all of the different Community Groups at Edge. There have been rumors of amazingly hot sauces and some "white bean" chili for the more faint of stomach, so be sure to come.
Christmas in Haiti!
Secondly, Edge has been involved in various ways in ministering to Haiti since we first began. We wanted to let everyone know about an exciting opportunity to minister to the poor in Haiti this Christmas. We're so blessed with material comforts here in America, but Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. The $25 or $50 that we spend on a disposable luxury gift for someone here in the states can mean a changed life for someone in Haiti!
With that in mind, Starfish Ministries (the organization we work with in Haiti) has put together a Haiti Christmas Gift List. This list contains 8 different Christmas gift ideas, ranging in price from $5 to $150 or more. For the next two Sundays (December 12th and 19th) we'll be accepting donations at Edge towards Christmas gifts for Haitians. Keep in mind that 100% of your donation goes towards the Christmas gifts--Starfish Ministries does not take any money out for administration costs or other overhead.
For those of you who would like to give gifts in honor of a loved one the good folks at Starfish have a Christmas Card available for you to print out.
To donate Christmas gifts to the Haitians, simply designate the gift you place in the giving box at Edge towards "Haiti Christmas." You may also write what specific gift you'd like to purchase (a bike, a goat, a birthday party, etc).
Please take this wonderful opportunity to spread the joy of Christmas to those in need in Haiti.
Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.
